: LAAX - 2017 Junior World Champion Halfpipe is Wicki

(LAAX, Switzerland – March 21st, 2017) – Ten days FREESTYLE CHAMPS LAAX ended yesterday with the Junior World Championships. The new Snowboard Junior World Champion in Halfpipe are Berenice Wicki (SUI).

As usual the LAAX Superpipe was perfectly prepared and also the weather played along with spring temperatures and bluebird. The day after the Swiss Championships which Pat Burgener – a former LAAX Junior Jam champ – and Verena Rohrer won, 32 emerging talents from all over the world showed their skills in the 200 m long superpipe with 6,9 m high walls and 22 m transition. They proved that the future of Snowboarding is in good hands. In the finals the top 10 boys and top 6 girls from the qualifications had three runs each to show their bag of tricks.

Switzerland and Korea win titles

In the women’s competition the 14-years young Swiss Berenice Wicki dominated. She regularly rides the Halfpipe in LAAX and was also competing at the LAAX Open and former Burton European Open. In her gold medal run she showed a Backside Air, Frontside Air, Backside Tail, followed by a Frontside 360 Indy, Cab 360 Melon, Frontside 540 Indy and ended with a Backside Indy. The Junior World Champion title is Berenice’s biggest success so far. She was completely happy: “The pipe in LAAX is just the best! This was by far my very best day since I’m riding Halfpipe!”
