Croatia’s world and Olympic champion had taken the lead with a first round effort of 64.58, and kept getting better, with a second round of 67.37 and a third round of 68.78 before producing her masterpiece in the fifth round.
A roar of triumph and a prolonged wiggle indicated that Perkovic was entirely satisfied with this turn of events, and the crowd responded eagerly to her vigorous invitation to show full appreciation.
