Fitzgibbons Claims Win at the Brothers Neilsen Pro Junior
QUEENSLAND, Australia (Saturday, Apr. 21, 2007) - Sunshine Coast surfing-Gerroa sensation Sally Fitzgibbons has won her respective division of the $23,000 Brothers Neilsen Pro Junior at Southport Spit . Adding to the event’s already high stakes was the inclusion of a three-star rated girls’ division for the first time in the tournament’s history.
Pocket-rocket Fitzgibbons claimed the inaugural crown defeating reigning Queensland Surf Series (QSS) champion Rebecca Oakley (Coolangatta) in a one-sided affair.
The 16-year-old proved unstoppable in the tide-affected conditions, emerging victorious to claim $1,000 along with her first Pro Junior series victory in 2007. Fitzgibbons finished on a two-wave total of 15.25-points to Oakley’s 6.35.
In doing so, Fitzgibbons extended her ASP Australasian Pro Junior series ratings lead with 9,725-points, 1,300 clear of Narrabeen’s Laura Enever. Airini Mason (8380), Jessie Hickson (8015) and Oakley (7868) round out the top five.
