The Nottingham Hellfire Harlots brought home a crucial win this
weekend against Leeds Roller Dolls, qualifying them for the British
Championships Roller Derby Tier 2 playoffs and seizing them the chance
for promotion to Tier 1, the Premiership.
With a score of Leeds 111 – 189 Harlots, this was the Harlots' fourth
win in the 2015 tournament, and their final opponents in their tier,
the Newcastle Roller Girls have also won four games. As the remaining
contenders in Tier 2 North, the Harlots and Newcastle will go
head-to-head for the divisional title next month although both teams
will still go to the playoffs with Tier 2 South in September for the
chance to be promoted to Tier 1 in 2016.
Rosie Peacock, Team Captain for the Nottingham Hellfire Harlots said
“We are so pleased with our win against Leeds! Our focus, teamwork and
physical game controlled the game from the first whistle to the last.
“Our next game (hosted by Hot Wheel Roller Derby in Leeds) against
Newcastle Roller Girls will be our toughest game to date as we are
both undefeated in British Champs Tier 2 North. We have had a great
season so far and to have fought our way in to the finals with the
chance of promotion to Tier 1, we won't let this opportunity slip
through our fingers.”
Not only did Saturday's bout have massive implications for the
Harlots' future in the British Championships tournament, the Leeds
game moved the Harlots to the fifth ranked team in the UK and 18th in
Europe.
