Junior Team England Girls Become Three Time Tenpin Bowling European Champions!

It was joy for Junior Team England Girls in Vienna as they successfully
defended their European title yet again at the tenpin bowling European
Youth Championships. 2019 is the third year in a row that England have
taken the coveted gold medal, following a bronze medal in 2016.

The English quartet featuring Issy Allen, Rhian Dobinson, Jenny Grace
and Lucy Williams qualified for the medal play-offs in third place with
a total of 4631 for their six games (193 average). Three time team
member, Issy Allen led the way with a 1256 (209.3 average), with
highlights including a 268 from Jenny Grace in the final game of
qualifying.

It was a comfortable win for England in the semi final, defeating
Finland 781-734. They met Denmark in a nail-biting final where the teams
tied on 761 apiece, in scenes reminiscent of 2017, where England tied
against Sweden in the gold medal match. A one-ball roll-off saw a
jubilant England run out winners 38 v 36, making history in taking the
title for a unprecendented third year in a row.

Team England Head Coach, Andy Penny said:

"That was a true team effort! Every player and every coach made a
contribution to us winning gold, including all the boys who kept
everyone going with their songs. Who said that bowling wasn't exciting?
Truly one of the best days of my coaching career!"

16 year old team member, Issy Allen, also swept the Masters knock-out at
the Championships, taking home the gold medal and being crowned Girls
European Youth Champion. This accompanies her Doubles Bronze medal with
partner Rhian Dobinson at last month's World Junior Championships in
Paris.
