Kerber Clinches US Open Title

Angelique Kerber assured her rise to the No. 1 ranking in the world. On Saturday, she affirmed her place as the world’s best, edging past No.10 seed Karolina Pliskova, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

The German left-hander won her first US Open women’s singles title Saturday, defeating Karolina Pliskova in a thrilling three-setter, winning five of the last six games to take the victory, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. She completed her comeback from 3-1 down in the final set when Pliskova’s final forehand sailed wide, immediately collapsing to the court, then climbing into the stands to embrace her team.
