In the women’s 100m backstroke S8, USA’s star swimmer Jessica Long was again denied a first gold medal at Rio 2016, but managed to claim bronze, as Great Britain’s Stephanie Millward won gold with four seconds to spare and reset the Paralympic record. It caps a near two-decade effort for the 34-year-old Millward, who has multiple sclerosis. Australia's Maddison Elliot won the silver.

"I have been dreaming about this for 18 years and eventually my dream has come true," said Millward. "I've been running it around in my head, 'just imagine what would I say? Just imagine if I have that gold medal in my hand, what's it going to be like?' I seem to have been dreaming about this for ever."
