NetFest returns to the Sunshine Coast

Australia’s biggest netball festival, NetFest will return to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast for the second year running, taking place in Mooloolaba and Maroochydore from 10-13 October 2019.

Now in its ninth year of existence, NetFest will see netball fans from all over Australia and New Zealand enter their teams and converge on the beautiful Sunshine Coast to enjoy an extra-long weekend of fun and light-hearted netball activities.

The four-day event features outdoor and beach netball tournaments, as well as celebrity matches, DJs, official parties, food and drink vendors and more.

Netball Australia Executive General Manager of Events Chris Symington says Netball Australia is thrilled to again be bringing the mass participation netball event to the Sunshine Coast.

“NetFest was really embraced by the Sunshine Coast region last year with more than 2,000 participants taking part in the four days of activity, so we’re excited to roll out the event in this iconic beachside location again,” he said.

“Having been around for so many years now, NetFest is firmly etched on the netball calendar and we believe we will continue to grow the event and overall netball participation with the ongoing brilliant support of Tourism and Events Queensland and the Sunshine Coast Council.

“NetFest attracts netballers from all over to take part in a relaxed tournament at an amazing location – we can’t wait to showcase what the beautiful Sunny Coast has to offer yet again.”

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones welcomes Netfest back to the Sunshine Coast.

“Queensland is the home of world-class sporting events. We have a great climate and lifestyle and a range of iconic tourism experiences participants can enjoy while they’re here competing,” Ms Jones said.

“Events like this attract visitors from across Australia and support our local tourism industry. We know NetFest will be a boon to the Sunshine Coast economy.”

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said he was delighted Netball Australia had recognised the success of last year’s NetFest on the Sunshine Coast and chosen to return in 2019.

“The Sunshine Coast loves netball and this can be seen in the way in which our community has embraced the back to back Suncorp Super Netball premiers, the Sunshine Coast Lightning,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“With our fantastic facilities, wonderful weather and welcoming community, we’re fast becoming known as a premier destination for major sporting events.

“Last year’s NetFest was an outstanding success at the Maroochydore Multi-Sport Complex and on Mooloolaba Beach and to have the opportunity to host this four-day event for a second consecutive year is terrific recognition from Netball Australia.

“On behalf of the Sunshine Coast community, I look forward to welcoming the 2000-plus participants who’ll visit us in October and we’ll be doing everything we can to make NetFest 2019 the biggest and best event yet.”

Early bird team registrations will open from Tuesday 19 February via netfest.com.au.

Travel packages will be available to registrants and their friends and families who are travelling to the event.
