The Great Britain Taekwondo Team has returned from the prestigious Taekwondo German Open with another successful medal haul on the back of last weeks achievements in the Dutch Open. Great Britain added four gold medals, one silver and another bronze to their  bulging trophy cabinet in last weekend’s exciting two day event in Bonn, western Germany. The German Open saw more than thousand entrants from over fifty countries compete for honours with Great Britain finishing in an impressive forth in the overall standings behind Germany, Croatia and Turkey respectively. Great Britain beat both the Netherlands and the United States who both entered significantly more entrants than Great Britain’s team of fifteen.

Sarah Stevenson (All Stars Taekwondo Club, Doncaster) won an exciting gold medal in the female heavyweight +72Kg weight category, an Olympic equivalent weight division. Sarah overcame the experienced Venezuelan Ineabelle Diaz in the final on her way to what was her second gold medal in a week after her success at the Dutch Open. Great Britain’s forth gold went to Bianca Walkden (Liverpool Elite Taekwondo Club) in a very strong junior +72Kg weight category, beating competition from Croatia and Turkey on route to her medal.

Twenty three year-old Sarah Stevenson (All Stars Taekwondo Club, Doncaster) commented after her medal: “I am delighted to have now won two gold medals in a week at both the Dutch and German Open”, Sarah added: “These successes will give the team and I great confidence in the build up to the World Taekwondo Championships in May”.
