Swansea City Ladies headed for America

Swansea City Ladies will this summer spread their wings and cross the Atlantic for their pre-season tour that will take them to the USA.

Flying into New York this June, the tour will see the Swans Ladies take on a trio of American teams as part of their preparations for the 2016/17 season.

The two time Welsh Premier Women’s League Champions will then head to the Garden State to face Jersey United Spartans, PDA (Player Development Academy) Soccer and New Jersey Copa FC and it’s an opportunity that all are relishing.

“Everyone is extremely excited about our preseason tour to New Jersey,” said the Ladies’ manager, Ian Owen.

“As a team, we are looking forward to this great opportunity to travel to America and compete in three high standard games,” added midfielder Katy Hosford. “I am personally looking forward to this test and challenging myself against some of the top players,” the Welsh under-19 international continued.

Running from 19th-27th of June, the tour will kick off on Tuesday 21st as the Swans line up against their counterparts from Jersey United Spartans at Morristown Beard School.

The following evening will see them return to Morristown for the second game of the tour against PDA, a year-round soccer training programme that aims to develop players in an array of age groups, competing in a range leagues throughout the northeast and mid-Atlantic states.

Playing their last match on Friday 24th June, the tour will culminate with a game against New Jersey Copa FC.

A part of FC Copa Academy - a nationally recognised soccer organisation comprised of 40 premier teams – New Jersey Copa FC’s ladies’ team competes in the UWS East Conference (United Women’s Soccer).

"We are excited to welcome the Swansea City Ladies to the U.S. and to have them be part of our inaugural season in UWS," said NJCFC President Roberto Aguas. "To have one of the top teams in Europe as a mid-season friendly is something we truly are looking forward to.

"We expect this game to be very competitive… but we look forward to comparing and contrasting the styles and level of play between our two clubs,” he continued.

“The opportunity to compete against players from the top women’s footballing nation in the world is fantastic. As a coach, to test my players in this in environment is very appealing and personally I am looking forward to the challenge. Our players are always challenging themselves and I’m sure they are relishing the prospect of playing in the States,” Ian finished.
