U.S. OPEN QF: EL TAYEB POWERS PAST COMPATRIOT ELARABY

A masterclass performance from World No.3 Nour El Tayeb saw her book her place in the semi-finals of the FS Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships courtesy of a 3-0 victory over compatriot Rowan Elaraby.

19-year-old Elaraby started well to take a 4-0 lead in the first, however, El Tayeb soon started to rattle off the points to take a one-game lead. The talented El Tayeb then continued to impress as she marched to a 11-6, 11-2, 11-7 victory in just 26 minutes.

The 2017 U.S. Open champion, who made history when she won the title on the same day as husband Ali Farag, will take on the woman who she beat in that final – Raneem El Welily – in the last four.

“I’m feeling great on the court and I’m very pleased with how I’m playing,” said 26-year-old El Tayeb afterwards.

“I can’t wait to get back on here for the semis and hopefully reach another final.

“I’m happy that I’m reaching the stage where I’m playing Raneem. It’s been a great season so far, she is the best in the world for a reason, but I can’t wait to get on there and play a good match.

“I need to watch the last couple of matches and see what I was doing right and not so right. I think I will have to study again, even though we have played a million times, and see where I can improve for the next match.”

Result:
[4] Nour El Tayeb (EGY) bt Rowan Elaraby (EGY) 3-0: 11-6, 11-2, 11-7 (26m)
