Four-way tie after two days at Copa Latina

Mexico and Colombia claimed victories over hosts Peru and Dominican Republic in the second day of action at the V Copa Latina of women’s junior volleyball on Friday.

The four teams, qualified to the FIVB U20 Women’s Junior World Championship in Czech Republic, have 1-1 win-loss record.

Mexico’s Alejandra Isiordia scored 27 points in leading the 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-23) victory over Peru. Angela Leyva and Milagros Rodriguez each registered 20 points for the home side.

In the other match, Colombia won 25-11, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22 over Dominican Republic. Margarita Martinez had 18 points for the winners and Pamela Soriano finished with 15 for the defeated team.

In Saturday’s matches, Colombia meets Mexico and the Dominican Republic plays against Peru to conclude the preliminary round.

“We continue with our preparation towards the world championship where we hope to be among the top teams,” the Mexican Isiordia said.

Isiordia, the Most Valuable Player of the U-20 Pan American Cup held in Havana, Cuba last March, has now 55 points in the two matches played so far.
