Wagar Just Shy of Junior Snowboarding World PGS Finals
Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club's Cassie Wagar (Steamboat Springs, CO) led the USA's charge Wednesday finishing 18th in the FIS Junior World Snowboard Championships parallel giant slalom event. Switzerland's Julie Zogg were crowned PGS Junior World champions in Valmalenco.
Wagar showed strength in the PGS qualification rounds. However, her day was cut short by a mere 14-hundredths, finishing just outside the top 16 in 18th. Zogg proved dominance throughout the heats taking names as she raced her way to the finals clinching the Junior Worlds champion title by nearly a second. Zogg was joined by teammate Stefanie Mueller who took silver and Germany's Cheyenne Loch who landed bronze.
The 2011 FIS Junior World Snowboard Championships continue Thursday with the men's and women's parallel slalom race.
