Young Swimmers Make a Splash at Courts Homecentres Junior Fun Day!

Just under 100 young swimmers from 12 Suva schools participated in a swimming carnival over the weekend which included the not too common events of the “Kickboard Race”, “Noodle Race” and “Boogie Board Paddle”. Fun and participation for good health was the order of the day. The average age of the competitors was 7yrs old with several 5 and 6 yr olds also taking part. Naming rights sponsors Courts Homecentres provided certificates of participation and a medal for all competitors.

The concept behind the event is to provide a friendly and enjoyable introduction to the sport of swimming to encourage participation and good sporting behaviour. Both were evident on the faces of the young children as they took great pride in completing their first “BIG Race”.

This is a new initiative run by Fiji Swimming in conjunction with its larger and more serious Courts Homecentres Zone and National Championships.

After such a good turn out both in Suva and in Nadi earlier in the year, this is event is sure to feature on the 2008 calendar again.
