The England girl international, who turned 16 last month, birdied the third extra hole to beat Chloe Williams of Wales. The two girls had both finished the 36-holes of regulation play on two-under par – with Bronte completing her second round with a birdie on the 18th to force a play-off. After she clinched victory Bronte said: “I feel amazing. This is the reward for seven years of hard graft in this competition. It’s also my last time here and that meant a lot.” She also revealed that seven is her lucky number! Bronte, the Northern ladies’ champion from Bramhall, rates this as the best win of her career to date and describes it as very special. She told of how she was encouraged, before the start of the final round, to receive a text from last year’s winner, Emily Taylor of Lancashire. At the time the Cheshire girl was two shots off the lead, at the halfway stage, and the text exhorted her to : “Keep it in the North.” Bronte said: “I loved that!” She went out and played the second 18 in two under, with four birdies and equal halves of one-under par. Meanwhile, Chloe Williams – who scored two-under in the first round – completed her regulation play with a level par round. Just behind them was Norfolk’s Amber Ratcliffe, another member of the EWGA squad, who shot a superb three-under 69 and finished the tournament on one-under. In the play-off, starting on the 16th hole, both Bronte and Chloe halved the first in par. They both bogeyed the short 17th and on the par five 18th they were in similar positions after two shots, just off the green. Chloe chipped up but missed her putt; Bronte successfully got up and down for birdie and the title. “My putt was about 4ft and had a bit of movement on it. I was shaking, a bit nervous to say the least, and it was difficult,” said Bronte. In addition, England won the team competition, thanks to Bronte, Amber and English U15 champion Georgia Hall (Remedy Oak). They were part of a EWGA squad of six taking part in the championship. Overall, five English players were in the top ten: Bronte Law won the title, Amber Ratcliffe was third, Ellie Goodall of Selby shot a best of the day 68 to finish fourth, Lianna Bailey (Notts Ladies) was eighth and Georgia Hall was tenth.
