The Emeralds, playing bottom placed Sapphires won by 27 runs in a very close match played out in Loughborough. Having lost the toss and been put into bat the Emeralds posted a reasonable 147, with Beth Morgan making an impressive 65. Laura Spragg and Rochelle Petty took 3-18 and 3-29 respectively. In reply the Sapphires fell to 120 all out, with only Laura Spragg (40) and Helen Wardlow (23 not out) putting up any resistance. Danielle Wyatt was the pick of the bowlers by far, taking 5-23 from her 9 overs.
In the other match of the weekend at the Home of Women’s Cricket, Taunton, the Rubies once again showed their all-round talent by beating a Diamonds side still missing England Captain Charlotte Edwards. The Rubies were asked to bat on an overcast day and made 98-6 from 35 overs before the heavens opened and the match was delayed by two hours. Upon the resumption, the Diamonds were set a revised target of 96 to win from 27 overs. They fell to 84-9 as England spinner Holly Colvin took another five-wicket haul, 5-27. Jenny Gunn top scored with 22 for the Diamonds.
