Gohar and El Tayeb Seeded to Meet in Carol Weymuller Final

Egypt’s World No.3 Nouran Gohar and World No.4 Nour El Tayeb are seeded to face each other in the final of the Carol Weymuller PSA World Tour Bronze event after the main draw was released today.

The tournament will take place at The Heights Casino in Brooklyn, New York between January 22-27 and will feature a strong female line-up battling for the title.

Gohar is the top seed and has enjoyed a strong season on American soil so far with victory at the first Platinum event of the season, the U.S. Open, where she defeated compatriot El Tayeb in the final after coming from championship ball down in Philadelphia.

Gohar, along with the other top eight seeds, receives a bye into the second round where she will face either Finland’s Emilia Soini or France’s Melissa Alves.

The World No.3 is seeded on the same side of the draw as the likes of France’s World No.5 Camille Serme, England’s former World No.3 Alison Waters and Egypt’s World No.14 Salma Hany.

At the opposite of the draw is defending Carol Weymuller Open champion El Tayeb, who is seeded on the same side of the draw as New Zealand’s World No.6 Joelle King, USA No.1 Amanda Sobhy and India’s Joshna Chinappa.

El Tayeb defeated England’s World No.7 Sarah-Jane Perry in the final of last season’s tournament and will be looking to keep her hands on the title as she takes on either South Africa’s Alexandra Fuller or Egypt’s Farida Mohamed in round two.

Home interest comes in the form of No.5 seed Sobhy, who will face either compatriot Haley Mendez, who grew up playing squash at The Heights Casino, or Malaysia’s Low Wee Wern. The wildcard spot is taken by France’s Marie Stephan, who resides in Philadelphia, and she will face Egypt’s World No.30 Mariam Metwally in round one.
