COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 25, 2007) – The fifth stop along USA Volleyball’s Beach Junior Tour took place on June 16 at Bradford Beach in Milwaukee, Wis. Wisconsin’s finest sand players dominated the competition, as seven of eight division championships were captured by Wisconsin-natives. Featured at the event were girls’ U-12-20 divisions.

The tournament’s youngest pair, Laren Musurlian and Abby Jeffcoat of Racine, won the girls’ U-12 division as the only competing team.
Jenna Jacobson and Michelle Schultz of Chicago, Ill., were the lone out-of-state champions, capturing the U-14 title over New Berlin’s duo of Lauren Wein and Rachel Murphy, 21-19. Geneva Yee (Milwaukee) and Rebecca Roembke (Cederburg) took bronze.

Brittany Groth of Oak Creek and Germantown’s Tori Kroll ousted the team of Anna Bartz (Burlington) and Alesha Bagin (West Bend) 21-16, for the U-16 crown. Another one of West Bend’s own, Kim Frei and Ashley Warnke of Milwaukee, finished the tournament with a third-place showing. In the boys’ division there was a single entry, the team of David Catoe and Kurt Larsen, both of Racine.

Karen Sueppel (Grafton) and Andrea Henning (Jackson) handed Milwaukee-native, Samantha Minton and Monomonee Falls’ Mollie Moesch a 21-18 setback for the girls’ U-18 championship. The hometown-team of Korina Yee and Carmen Terriquez placed third. Nick Isdale (Broadview) and Joe Lencioni (Riverside) teamed up and for a two-point victory over Jonny Olson (Livingston) and Jake Barreau (Portage) for top-honors in the boys’ U-18 division. Finishing third were Kenosha-native, Tomas Goldsmith, and Jim Schultz of Salem.

Rounding out the tournament with a gold-medal performance in the girls’ U-20 division were Melissa Cindric (Franklin) and Laren Voss (Hartland). The tandem downed the team of Katie Roessler (Wauwatosa) and Liz Pfeiffer (Sheboygan), 21-14, 15-21, 15-9. Capturing third-place honors were the Minnesota-duo of Erin Cusac of Pine River and Marie Godwin of Chaska. On the boys’ side, the Glendale team of Jason Zaleski and Jon Leonard won the U-20 competition outright as the tournament’s only entry.

USA Volleyball’s Beach Junior Tour will make its next stop on July 15 in sunny Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Florida stop marks the halfway point of the summer tour and will conclude with the USA Beach Junior Open (formerly the USA Junior Beach Volleyball Championships) on Aug. 5 in Long Beach, Calif., and the U.S. Beach Junior Tour Championships on Aug. 12 in Huntington Beach, Calif.
