TOP GIRL SURFERS FOR ROXY SURF JAM

Most of the best female surfers in the country are set to enter the second Roxy Surf Jam Presented By Virgin Mobile in association with Resolution Health, with a healthy number of entries confirmed for the event.

The event is set to take place at the Wedge Beach in Durban on the 26 – 27 May, slap bang in the middle of the prime surf season in Kwazulu Natal. The land breezes will be blowing, and there is bound to be some good swell for the event.

Heidi Palmboom from The Bluff enters the event as a favourite to win the U14 division, but she will face strong competitions from the likes of Bianca Buitendag from George and Sarah Baum from Durban.

The U16 division will most likely be a battle between Alice Mc Gregor and Tanika Hoffman, both from Cape Town, but surfers of the ilk of confident local girl Kirsty Delport could always walk away with a win at one of her home breaks.

Chantelle Rautenbach from Melkbosstrand, who will be inspired and motivated after her recent performance at the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships, is set to be a contender in the U18 division, but she will come up against the likes of Lisa Mace from Kommetjie and new star Adele Nortje from Mossel Bay

Another surfer who achieved great results and was a stand-out at the Quiksilver ISA Junior World Championships was Tarryn Chudleigh from Kommetjie. She will be competing in the U20 Pro Junior Girls against girls of the calibre of Holly Armstrong from Kommetjie as well as surfers from other divisions like Buitendag and Mace.

This is the second Surf Jam of the year, with the final event on the Roxy calendar being the Roxy Wahine Cup in Durban, the biggest stand-alone girls event in the country. The Roxy Surf Jams are extremely popular amongst the female surfers in South Africa, and are proving to be a great springboard to launch our girls onto the Pro Tour.

The Roxy Surf Jams are going to be covered on Boardriders TV, which is set for extensive broadcast time on Supersport. Boardriders TV have already committed to covering the events in their entirety, thus giving them loads of airtime.

The Roxy Surf Jams presented by Virgin Mobile in association with Resolution Health, is proudly supported by Saltwater Girl and Roxy Eyewear.

Surfing South Africa sanctions the Roxy Surf Jams, and the U20 division is part of the Surfing South Africa Pro Surf Tour.
