World champion and world number one Saeid MOLLAEI (IRI) powered into the last four with four wins from four contests including a round four success over Olympic champion Khasan KHALMURZAEV (RUS).

European Games champion Matthias CASSE (BEL) claimed pool B with a strong performance while Sagi MUKI (ISR) was in spectacular form down in pool C as the Israeli charged into the semi-finals.

African Championships winner Mohamed ABDELAAL (EGY) was the surprise winner of the final pool as he beat Luka MAISURADZE (GEO) in the quarter-final.

World silver medallist FUJIWARA Sotaro (JPN) was humbled in his opening contest by Sharofiddin BOLTABOEV (UZB) by a waza-ari score.

World champion Clarisse AGBEGNENOU (FRA) breezed into the last four with a 100% record from the preliminaries.

Juul FRANSSEN (NED) showed her quality in pool B by going unbeaten as the 2018 world bronze medallist set her sights on opening her country’s medal account in Tokyo.

Olympic champion Tina TRSTENJAK (SLO) ruled pool C while three-time world medallist TASHIRO Miku (JPN) won her three contests by ippon to ensure that the top four seeds also progressed into the semi-finals.
