Russian Gymnasts shine in Maribor

42nd Salamun Memorial ART World Cup B
Maribor (SLO), April 17-19, 2009

LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, April 20, 2009: The 42nd Salamun Memorial, a FIG category B World Cup in Artistic Gymnastics, wrapped up in Maribor, Slovenia, on Sunday. Having secured every title in the women’s events and with Pluzhnikov’s Gold on Rings, Russia was the most successful nation at this tournament, which attracted some 2,000 spectators!



Women’s Competition

Vault
Russian gymnasts Anna Myzdrikova and Ekaterina Kurbatova were rewarded with Gold and Silver on Vault, a mere .025 points apart, while Annika Urvikko from Finland settled for the Bronze.

Uneven Bars
On Uneven Bars, Russia’s Ekaterina Kurbatova walked away with the Gold, leaving her team mate Kristina Goryunova and Brazil’s Ethiene Franco in her wake.

3. FRANCO Ethiene (BRA) 13.650

Beam
With a score of 14.350, Russia’s Kristina Goryunova triumphed on Beam. Brazilian Ana Claudia Silva ranked second and Olympian Marta Pihan-Kulesza from Poland, who captured the Gold in Cottbus this year, settled for the Bronze in Maribor.

Floor
With a Gold on Floor, Kristina Goryunova took home her third medal from Maribor. Anna Myzdrikova added one more Silver to Russia’s World Cup collection, while Poland’s Marta Pihan-Kulesza pocketed yet another Bronze.
