Stars to Attend British Cycling Gala Dinner

A host of cycling stars past and present will be in attendance next month when the sport’s governing body celebrates its 50th Anniversary and 2009 Annual Awards at a Gala Dinner in Manchester’s Central Convention Centre on Saturday 20 February.

Four time Olympic Gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy, Dave Brailsford CBE and Downhill Mountain Bike World Champion Steve Peat have already confirmed their attendance. Great Britain Cycling Team riders, high profile figures from the sporting world and corporate partners will also attend the event, which will be hosted by Sky’s leading presenter Dermot Murnaghan. A number of celebrities are also expected on the night.

The event will celebrate everything that is great about cycling, paying tribute to a number of Britain’s World and Olympic champions as well as thousands of volunteers and administrators that make the sport happen. The night will also be an opportunity to reflect on historic cycling landmarks while looking ahead to more paroled success in the future.

The British Cycling Annual Awards will recognise outstanding performances from across all cycling disciplines in 2009. To culminate the night 50 cycling heroes who have made an exceptional contribution to the sport over the past five decades will be inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame including Chris Boardman MBE, Tom Simpson and Graham Webb.

British Cycling President, Brian Cookson, said: “We are really looking forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary in Manchester as it is the home of British Cycling. The event will bring together some of the biggest names in our sport in a premier setting fit for the occasion.”
