World indoor champion remains loyal to Stawell

Returning home from Valencia, Spain where she produced the race of her life to overcome seven-time World Indoor Champion Maria Mutola and 2003 World Indoor Champion Mayte Martinez to take out the 800m final in true Aussie battler form, Lewis has confirmed that Stawell is still locked into her diary.

A regular attendee of the Stawell Gift weekend, 2008 will serve as Lewis’ fourteenth appearance, missing only one year since 1994 when she was on Australian relay duties prior to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

“My family is the reason that I keep going back. We have a great time and stay at Halls Gap over Easter,” explained the 29-year-old.

“It’s so relaxing because it’s on after our domestic season and it’s a nice time to spend with the family before I go to overseas for athletics.

“I love the environment at Stawell. All my training partners are pro athletes, so I go and watch and support them, just like they support me.”

Currently entered in three events over the weekend, coach and brother Justin Lewis is wary of her Olympic preparations and will keep an eye on how her body pulls up after her amazing 800m performance at the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

“Tamsyn will most likely run in the women’s 400m, but a final decision will be made next week.”

The 400m Endura Sports Nutrition Lorraine Donnan Women’s Handicap heats are run on Saturday, 22 March whilst the final will be held on Easter Monday, 24 March.
