Russian Gymnasts ahead on rope and hope


2009 World Games Test Events, Kaohsiung (TPE)

KAOHSIUNG (TPE) FIG Office, Rope event qualifying round of the Rhythmic Gymnastics competition kicked off at the World Games 2009 Kaohsiung Test Event Series today with Russian athlete Natalia Pichuzhkina taking the lead with 16.625 points and Chinese Taipei's Wang Yi-Chieh in second place with 15.500 points. Also qualifying for the final were Aleksandra Ermakova of Russia, Sibongile Mjekula of South Africa and Pei-Lung Yu from Chinese Taipei.

Her score was lower than at the qualifying rounds and tied her with her compatriot Aleksandra Ermakova, while Natalia Pichuzhkina (RUS) won the Rhythmic Gymnastics Rope competition with 16.450 points. Sibongile Mekula (RSA) placed third with a score of 14.750, pushing Wang Yi-Chieh and Pei-Lung Yu (both TPE) into fourth and fifth positions.


Having already led the qualifying round, Natalia Pichuzhkina (RUS) prevailed over her competitors once again with 16.550 points on Hoop, again followed by Aleksandra Ermakova (RUS) who scored 16.050. Pei-Lung Yu (TPE) made the host nation proud by making it to the podium with 14.975 points. Her compatriot Wang Yi-Chieh ranked 4th with a score of 14.825 while Sibongile Mjekula of South Africa finished last in today’s Hoop competition with 14.375 points.

Will today’s competitors be able to overcome their Russian rivals in tomorrow’s Clubs and Ribbon events? We’re looking forward to more rhythmic action in the Kaohsiung Arena!
