Basketball Sensation Kymira Woodberry

"I first started playing when I was 10yrs old in a YMCA 18 & Under Co-Ed basketball league. I was the youngest  player on my team and in the entire league. I was timid but somehow after that first season of basketball I knew I wanted to continue playing from there, and I did. I began to play in the neighborhood leagues. At age 11 I came across a AAU basketball team by the name of the Lady Dolphins, they were the top girls team in Boston. We dominated our age bracket as well as competed and dominated the age bracket above us in Boston.

My coach decided that we needed more competition outside of our city and decided to take us to tournaments way beyond Boston. She wanted to open our eyes and let us know there's a much bigger world out there and if we wanted to be the best we had to play against the best. We played in a lot of big tournaments up and down the east coast.

My love began to grow even more playing AAU. It was the best time of my life playing against top teams, seeing college coaches and sometimes WNBA players. It made me really want to be apart of that world. So I played middle and high school, and then eventually received a college scholarship to play at a small Division 2 school in New York called Molloy College.

While at college I broke a lot of records, I was a 1000th point scorer, 100th rebounder, 2 conference championships, 2 NCAA appearances, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, etc.

Even with all my accomplishments and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in accounting I wanted more for myself. I wanted to continue to see the world and experience new things. So I went to overseas tryouts and attending different camps. I've traveled to PR, China, and Sweden due to basketball, and now I'm in Darwin, Australia looking to pursue bigger and better opportunities for myself.

I hopefully would like to play in the top leagues against top players. Still hoping and working hard to make my dreams come true of continuing to play basketball and traveling the world. Wherever I can play I'll play and make time to make the best out of my situation. My dream is still alive and I will continue to pursue it as long as I can until my body tells me otherwise. All I can ask for is a chance and/or opportunity and I'll take it from there."

Basketball Strengths: Kymira is the best rebounder I have ever coached in my career.  She has averaged a double double for four years.  Plays way bigger than her 5’10”-5’11”  frame.  Very skilled in the post having mastered five to six post moves and counter plays her angles better than anyone I have seen at that size.  Among all of that she was number 2 in our league in steals and 3rd in blocks.  Kymira’s strongest point defensively is her ability to defend off the ball.  There have been certain cases during her career that I have had her take the ball up if we were getting pressed and wouldn’t you know it she never turned over the ball.  Kymira was my first recruit and whoever has the opportunity to coach her next is a very lucky person.
