Burnley FC Women on their way to turning pro!
This is a new and great day for Burnley's women football team, as an amalgamation into the operations of the main football club means they are in the clear to turn professional real soon. Formerly just an affiliate of the football club, the women's team, Burnley FC Women have managed back-to-back promotions, showing their readiness to be much more than an amateur team. The main football club dropped the announcement on their Twitter page on February 11th, calling it part of their long-term strategy to boost women's football. There are still some ways to go for the club to be officially pro, but this is a key step in the process and will feel like the culmination of all the club as achieved in recent times. According to team manager Matt Bee, the plan is to get into the Women's championships with the WSL being the main target, but not before taking in the boost this new development is and remembering how much is left to be done.
Next up for the club, is to get an academy for the women's club, which Bee believes is very much possible and will be another big step forward for the club and women's football. Following the amalgamation, the women's team will now be able to function full-time in the operations of the main club while also benefitting from sharing their facilities. New infrastructure, status, and big things to look forward to will for sure be a boost to not only women and football around England but more so for the Burnley players who have been part of this rapid rise and journey. For the main club, this shows how ready they are to push into a new era of pro sports and the global game, shinning through with new heights of inclusiveness and support for women's football. According to Burnley chairman Alan Pace, the big change for women's football came after the success of the 2019 women's FIFA World Cup, which made a massive impact in terms of attracting new fans and inspiring both men and women's football.
