Passion takes hold in women’s football news

A main story this week in women’s football sadly reflects the level of sexism still portrayed across the globe that football is a ‘man’s game’. However, solidarity between players has put haters back in their place after a viral trend to support the same passion.

Posting a tweet on Twitter, the social media platform, goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez shared two images alongside each other of her and player Marco Asensio celebrating during gameplay. Simply captioned ‘Misma Pasión’ that translates into English as ‘same passion’, Rodriguez was then overwhelmed with sexist remarks and comments on the post which then resulted in her taking down the post.

Following the complete disregard and ultimate disrespect towards Rodriguez and female players, Real Madrid player Asensio made an impact on the community by tweeting the same message and identical images onto his Twitter account. Reaching more than 88,000 likes the action has spread like wildfire among other teams who have also posted images of their male and female players.

Teams including Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Lewes have already stood their ground in the trend, showing that sexism is not okay and will never win.

Leicester City show no sign of stopping now

As a triumphant story of completely turning a team around, Leicester City women’s team have grown from rags to riches as they have progressed through the leagues right up to the top table for the first time in their history.

In what the team describe as tin sheds, freezing marquees and training in car parks, the outcome of the season has rewarded the tough times they’ve left behind with manager Jonathon Morgan leading the team through a streak of 12 wins in a row.

Also encompassing an acquisition from King Power, who also own the men’s Leicester City team, the family of Morgan have confirmed that their first five-year plan has to come to a victorious end, so it is now time to look to the next five years. With results such as they are, the sky's the limit for the progressing Leicester City women’s team.
